VFD and pump protection functions

Increases reliability of the ESP system. Reduces maintenance costs. Longer life for the system.

“Manual”, “Automatic”, or ‘Automatic with Preset Time” restart depending on whether the motor needs to restart  automatically after a fault occurs or wait for operator’s command

Decreases ESP downtime in case of automatic restart.

VFD starts ESP after a preset time delay since power becomes available

Increases reliability of the ESP system.

On-site and remote (including LAN) control of process parameters

Simplifies control and increases effectiveness of the ESP system.

Functionality

The operator has a choice of the following start-up modes:

  • Cyclical. The VFD starts up production in an oil well using On-Off preset cycles. The operator determines the number and duration of each cycle. The start-up process completes upon conclusion of the cycles or when a sufficient well inflow has been reached. The VFD works with or without a submersible telemetry unit.
  • Pre-programmed. The VFD starts up production in an oil well by raising the output frequency. The operator determines the starting time and the final frequency. A submersible telemetry unit is not required.
  • Soft Start. Used in oil wells with a high percentage of solid material and after hydraulic fracturing.  A submersible telemetry unit is required.

The flying start is applied when the load on the pump (turbine rotation) causes its counter-rotation. The Triol AK06 smoothly reduces the pump motor speed and then reverses it to the forward direction without overcurrent. This mode allows to immediately restart the ESP rather than having to wait for oil to drain into the pipe and turbine rotation to end.

Shaking is applied in response to increased pump vibration due to a possible residue buildup on its impellers.

Triol AK06-ASPED provides the following protections:

  • Underload (due to oil extraction interruption);
  • Overload;
  • Output short circuit;
  • Supply undervoltage: automated algorithms enable the VFD to operate even when the supply voltage drops to 50% of the rated value;
  • Supply network disturbances;
  • Low ESP insulation resistance;
  • ESP overheating (using submersible telemetry);
  • Low base oil level (using submersible telemetry);
  • High vibration (using submersible telemetry);
  • High pipeline pressure (using submersible telemetry);
  • Motor current imbalance.
